Terrorism

Terrorism through the years has been used many times for political reasons, according to its meaning may be, rule of terror, a series of acts designed to provoke terror, organized criminal activity. Some forms or variants of terrorism are kidnapping, physical violence, torture or the most used and well known worldwide to use explosive to attack buildings and large numbers of people who are there.

One of the most notorious acts were the attacks on the twin towers in 2001, which was carried out by the terrorist group Al Qaida, as they themselves were attributed facts. On this occasion a lot of people died here, and so, we see the extreme of attacking a country and a government where there were hijackings and later were flown into buildings of great importance and concentration of people as were the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Another of the attacks that began to take after this big attack was the substances of anthrax, deadly bacteria. In this case use the postal route to attack journalist, politicians, and civilian employees of government and specifically in New York.

Some of the best known terrorist groups worldwide are ETA, Hamas, Al Qaida, the Japanese Red Army, Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Palestine Liberation Front, among many other groups. It is sad to see how these groups have organized a vast network that only think about destruction of the world and people, see the falling economies and the most impressive is the disrespect to thousands of innocent lives, when will they finished these groups and peace will return world?

Causes and effects of globalization

The Globalization is a worldwide phenomenon, which involves the economy, culture, media, and many other social factors that could serve to maintain the connection and negotiations with the rest of the world. It is said that the word globalization was first used in 1961 and after that became very popular, but in the 90's was when everybody given more importance.

The economic development of all countries in the world is based in how they could organized their invest and capital in globalization and its success depends on communication, negotiation and technologies that could manage to maintain communication with other countries. The problem that we can find is when small or underdeveloped countries can not maintain the pace of business and besides that its products or domestic production is unable to solve even domestic consumption.

The causes of globalization are obvious and not so difficult to understand, everyone wants power and this one is held by whoever has the resources and information to control the other countries. In Costa Rica many transnational corporations have become interested in the human product and this has given Costa Rica an advantage over the other Central American countries almost causing a mass migration of many Nicaraguans, Salvadorans and Guatemalans to our country looking for a better life. That would be one of the major effects of globalization.

The global migration to richer countries, with better opportunities as an effect of globalization is growing, directly influencing the culture and ethnicity of all countries. The union of one or more cultures causes a rich clash of ideas, customs and mentalities. Unfortunately this creates rejection and negativity towards cultural diversity, often giving racism between different cultures.

Another negative effect of globalization is excessive and uncontrolled pollution that we are causing with the excessive consumption of industrial products. This pollution is killing our rivers, our atmosphere, our environment and nature but more important is killing us. It exaggerated the increase in cases of skin cancer effects of the sun, but international treaties can not be achieved agreements wound to stop the polluting industries because below the table are handled exorbitant amounts of money paid to silence all who oppose the development.

Globalization is contradictory but I personally think that we can keep a balance if we could all do our part and balance the pros and cons with all the processes of globalization.

JAIL SENTENCES

The penalty is set as a measure for failure of expected social act, that is, when a person acts differently than expected and in turn generates social damage, material or human, the prison is the consequence of that act.

However, in many cases, I dare say that most, imprisonment does not fulfill its function re-socializing, to make the individual understand their behavior and is interested in adapting their behavior to what society expects of him.
Instead of punishing function rises to its maximum expression, subjecting the detained not only measures that limit their freedom of movement, but his freedom is violated physical, sexual, and mental.

By contrast, punitive function rises to its maximum expression, subjecting the detained not only measures that limit their freedom of movement, but is violated his freedoms physical, sexual, mental, etc.

In short, requiring the prison in our society for those individuals who break the law, it must be ensured because they serve their sentences so that it becomes effective for their reintegration into society upon completion of this.

Ethnic conflicts

Ethnic conflicts are defined as events that involve fighting against a race, or two or more races fighting against each other. At the same time, this term is explained as groups of people that belong to a race or cultural sector, as well as for religious reasons or because of their geographical location.

Throughout history, we have known and have even been involved in many conflicts related to the lack of tolerance for a certain ethnicity. To name some of the most known to mankind is the eternal conflict between people by the color of their skin.

However, not all conflicts start because of the differences of our skin, or our race, there are also political and religious beliefs that can affect the way of life of people and make them believe that “the others” are wrong, even if their appearance is similar and they have the same origin. Some examples of religious conflicts are the Crusades, the conquest of America, among others.

It is believed that ethnic conflicts have existed in mankind since always; even some anthropologists in their research have determined that even since the time of Neanderthal we had ethnic wars.

Finally, it seems that conflicts against other human beings have been part of our history forever. However, now days far from evolving into a more peaceful world, it seems that the situation is worsening, and that leads us think about the importance of strengthening the values of tolerance and promotes peace among peoples.

GLOBALIZATION OF INFECTIOUS DISEASE

Infectious diseases attack every day to human beings worldwide. Children and youth are one of the most affected since we are in daily contact with all kinds of sources of infection. According to OMS's epidemiological studies, 1500 people die every hour because of an infectious disease and half of that number are children under five years.

Avoid certain types of these diseases is very simple and does not cost much money as we might believe, but sometimes ignorance or lack of knowledge caused many people to be infected. The government of Costa Rica makes a great effort to bring knowledge of all possible methods of asepsis to every corner of the country and avoid further investment in the cure of these diseases.

But Costa Rica, despite being a developing country, has very good health programs, unlike many countries also developing. For example, in some African countries, people do not have a dollar per person per year, to give medicine to their residents. Although some of these drugs are very inexpensive, are not easily acquired by the lack of good distribution.

Many of these patients, sick or dying, are also parents or mothers who carry the daily sustenance to their homes, creating a human crisis where the poor get poorer because they do not have enough money to alleviate the diseases in their family. This is where public health institutions should act to help meet the health and welfare needs of every human being.

Among the diseases that attack the human being, according to OMS, malaria, measles, sleeping sickness, leprosy, sexually transmitted diseases, etc. Many of these diseases are eradicated in countries with access to vaccination. Millions of dollars are spent on wars could be well used in the cure of all these world-renowned infectious diseases.

Migration

The migration of people is an activity that occurs over many years; it is the movement of people from one country to another. Many times it is given with the prospect that their income will be better. Countries like USA, Canada, Japan and Australia are the main countries to which people migrate.

It must take into account the type of migration as they can be political, cultural, socioeconomic, family, or war.

So many people in Costa Rica want go to the United States seeking better employment and there by try to improve the income of their families to provide a better quality of life. And there’s the people of Colombia that come here seeking refuge in Costa Rica because of so much war and kidnappings that were living in the South American countries.

Migration can be a positive side but on the other side is not, and thus they reduce the rate of unemployment in their country of origin and the positive is the sending of remittances to their countries, but for countries, receive these people, may involve a larger population, can lead to insecurity and take jobs that others could need.

We can avoid this phenomenon gives greater cultural diversity to the cities where they arrive, and they reach people of various nationalities grouped together so that enriches the knowledge of all. It helps us to live with people different from one we can all learn and become better people in the future for all the new things become known.

I think this is a global phenomenon in which no country is safe from outsiders received daily, but I think it should be regulated. We must maintain a bond of solidarity and understanding but also be cautious about this.

POVERTY AND WAYS TO ALLEVIATE IT

Looking at the report of wikipedia, the poverty is: “Poverty has historically been accepted as inevitable as non-industrialized economies produced very little while populations grew almost as fast making wealth scarce.”

Compiled on February 10, 2011 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poverty_reduction

Poverty is a factor that could be considered physical or mental. But in this case we will refer to physical or monetary. And this poverty is repeated many times, generation after generation because of chains of aggression, substance abuse, including laziness to consider a career or a profession. This leaves many families in poverty.

The government tries to implement methods to eradicate poverty, but many of these do not work to go to the very source that causes hunger and desolation. Some examples of these methods could be:

1. Empowering individuals, households and communities to gain control over their lives and resources.

2. Strengthen gender equality to empower women and release their energy and creativity.

3. Accelerate growth for the benefit of the poor in 100 developing countries and transition economies which grow only slowly or are stagnant or declining.

Compile don February 10, 2011 http://usuarios.multimania.es/marccioni/6_medidas_para_erradicar_la_pobr.htm

Then clearly is in our hands, helping to this entire people, and the hands of the government to support these ideologies and reforms, to achieve poverty eradication and get a society where every individual contributes to the welfare of one or all.

MY CHILDHOOD

My childhood was peaceful and full of innocence. I grew up in Palmares, full of my old friends with whom I played at school whenever we could. We were all very friendly and there was no malice or mischief among none. Our parents knew eachother and allowed us to be in the house of a friend, until we fell asleep.

My family and I used to go to the farm of my grandparents during the holidays, is there where I have more fond memories. My grandfather was a serious and tough men, but with me was very sweet and understanding, even to teach me to drive. Whenever we got to the beach, I collected shells and snails to put in my collection, of all colors and many sizes.

I also liked to collect key chains, so, that’s why all who knew me and were traveling brought me one. So I have from Spain, Mexico, Colombia, Panama, etc.It was a great collection.

During my childhood I learned to play basketball and I liked to go play with my friends in the neighborhood to the public courts of Palmares, which is my hometown. We played from morning till night. Through this I could be in various national teams and in several basketball teams.

How beautiful would be return to that time of innocence where there was only play around and happiness!

GLOBAL WARMING

While 2010 was a year of extreme weather events: warmest year since we have thermometers, heat waves, floods of biblical character, record temperatures in 17 countries and negotiations toward legally binding agreements to replace the Kyoto Protocol vanish in the COP 16 in Cancun, "a surprise? Media fail to report on Global Warming and Climate Change.

Wikileaks leaks that are shaking the world public opinion also talk about energy and not, in this case, to have gossip but to show the insecurity that surround the geopolitics of gas, oil and nuclear energy.

Oil Minister of Saudi Arabia strongly supported the solar energy to avoid the bad image of the oil countries who opposed the reduction of emissions at the Copenhagen summit. The same double talk that is used with renewable energy also applies to the fight against climate change. The price of CO2 is to be multiplied by 2020 and its impact on the economy will be greater after 2012 when the allowances are not allocated free of charge, while, only a tenth of the firms take this into account.

In La Haya, delegates from 150 countries try to agree once and for all on how to stop the increase in "greenhouse effect. "

Term solutions involve great cost and sacrifice, and for this we must identify the main perpetrators of the problem.

Blame one is meaningless. The responsibility is shared and the industrialized countries no doubt are in the top of the list.

There are solutions, but the cost of this solution does not want to be covered by those who generate it. Our planet will continue on a course of deterioration until it's too late to turn back.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) states that all countries have common but differentiated responsibilities under the Climate Change. Developed countries make up the largest group responsibilities.

CO-CURRICULAR WEEK IN ULACIT

Dear organizers:

I desire you are doing well and can perform to perfection every project you plane.
The reason for my letter is simply to congratulate you for the different activities that my classmates and I could participate in Welcome Week and Innovation Week. I must say that due to lack of time, since my schedule is almost full from 7 am to 7 pm, I could not participate of all or some activities I have wanted to be.

I had the opportunity to talk a while with the space charge of Lehman Library, Miguel Angel Morales and Joanna Lopez Quiros, who were very nice and offered me, their products.

I noticed that several publishers offer books at very good prices, some better than others, and give us the opportunity to acquire an excellent tool which will serve to support the rest of our lives.

To make an observation about this is that maybe you should let the lithographic companies stay longer and not just a week because some books are expensive, but in this show may lower the price considerably. This could be useful for everyone in the week of exposure a person could not purchase the book maybe next week could buy it. It is my opinion.

But overall I found it excellent. I hope you keep motivating the students with as good extracurricular activities as this one.

HUMAN RIGHTS!

Human rights are all those benefits and conditions that recognize us as decent people and society people that allow us to have freedom and security. What would be a human being without freedom? In theory as human beings we are free from birth. No matter our social status, race, customs, nature, etc. We will always be free, because this is dictated by human rights.
Human rights are recognized in all or almost all the constitutions of the world, allowing all individuals enjoy welfare and dignity. All countries have the obligation and duty to defend, but is this true? Really as a nation we are defending our human rights? In Costa Rica people dies almost every day a person on the streets, in homes, neighborhoods and violence.
There is a kind of aggression that any human being unworthy and this is the domestic violence. How is it possible that in 2010 more than 36 women died because of the aggression of their own partner or spouse. And the sad thing is that most women reported the abuser long before the disaster. According to Human Rights: "Every human being is free and has the right to live by simple human condition. " But is this true? .
We must foster an environment of peace and tranquility in our homes and our children and report any injustice or ingratitude being committed against any neighbor. We must be partakers of the solution and not cover our faces with their hands. We must speak out, no matter what is said about this encourages the aggressor to attack with violence, sooner or later meet the crime, but we must stop this now! We must make it known to the authorities that we artos injustice. You have to scream to the world: NO MORE VIOLENCE, NO MORE DEATHS!
